A solar panel or photovoltaic module is a device used to supply electricity by converting energy produced from light into electricity. A solar panel is made of an assembly of solar cells which capture the energy from sunlight. Energy produced in this way is referred to as Solar Power.
The Photovoltaic effect (the creation of electricity from light) was recognised first by the French Physicist A. E. Becquerel in 1839, though the first solar cell was built in 1883 by Charles Fritts. The first modern solar cell was developed by Bell Laboratories in 1954.
